Meet Amy

Dr. Amy C. Moors is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Faculty Affiliate in Engineering at Chapman University. She serves as a Research Fellow at The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University and the co-chair of the American Psychological Association’s Division 44 Committee on Consensual Non-Monogamy.

She earned a B.A. in Psychology and Women’s Studies from William Paterson University, an M.S. in Experimental Psychology from Villanova University, and a Ph.D. in Psychology and Women’s Studies from the University of Michigan. After graduating in 2015, she continued on at the University of Michigan as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Center for Institutional Diversity, the ADVANCE Program, and the Energy Institute. From 2016-2018, she served as the Director of Social Science Research in the College of Engineering at Purdue University.

Amy’s research focuses on gender, sexuality, inclusion, and well-being. Her goal is to use science to address social issues such as systemic discrimination with the hope of moving up and onward. Along with over 60 peer-review journal articles and book chapters, Amy has published widely for the public, including dozens of policies, white papers, and brochures for mental health practitioners.

Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, CBS, and Scientific American and her research has garnered over $1 million in grant funding. 

Amy has received several awards for her pioneering research on polyamorous, swinging, and other forms of consensually non-monogamous relationships, including the Kenneth R. Haslam, MD, Relationship Diversity Research Award, the Distinguished Professional Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association Division 44, and the Outstanding Theoretical Paper Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality.

Originally from New Jersey, Amy joined the Chapman faculty in 2018. She enjoys scavenger hunts, hiking, watching reality TV dating shows, and making people smile. She lives in the best city in OC with her partner, Dan, and their three cats, Werther’s Original, Nips Coffee Crème, and Charleston Chew.
